The Abrameeites are a warp capable species from a star system on the outermost edge of Federation space.

They have had space travel for only the last 10 years but became warp capable in their first year. They have been warp capable in theory for the last 500 years but have never put the theory to test. Their slow technological progression when it comes to space flight is due to their unique physiology. The spikes protruding from their heads are natural sensors that they used to use to catch prey on their home world. They are incredibly sensitive to motion, light, and pressure. Sudden acceleration can incapacitate or kill them.

This required special adaptations whenever a new milestone in speed was to be reached. Any acceleration causing more then 1.2 G's can be lethal. They have overcome these challenges in the past with advanced medicines and treatments, or bulky environmental suits. Each has limits though and no single advance was a cure all. When they were finally able to break free of the their planets gravity they had already mastered warp theory. Before they had a single operation warp engine they had already built highly advanced inertial dampeners. They knew these would be the key to warp flight and as it so happens, inertial dampeners have also helped them gain access to space in the first place. Unfortunately for them their problem with sudden acceleration had always driven their most talented scientists to forgo conventional engine technology in favor of other fields. This makes the Abrameeites unique in that they are a warp 7 capable species that still must enter orbit through chemical rocket launches not unlike those of Earth in the 20th century.

These are a well rounded people. They respond to reason on most occasions but are also knows to act irrationally. They have much in common with humanity.
